How To Find Your Niche

To kick start your internet business, find your niche

Every business starts from the grassroots level, the same applies to your online business. It’s practically impossible to run a business that sells every product under the sun. You should narrow your focus to a  particular product or service. And this is what finding your niche entails.

Coming to choosing your niche
Look out for something that’s is of interest to you or a passion. It could be something that you would like to learn about.
Choosing a niche is part of the 5-step affiliate marketing blueprint, proven to work. Let me walk you through the 5 steps.

How to Make Money Cycle

Step 1 –  Choose a Niche
Step 2 –  Build Your Own Niche Website
Step 3 –  Setting Up Your Website
Step 4 – Getting Your Site Ready For Search Engines
Step 5 – Creating Your Initial Website Content

Choosing a niche

To get started choose your NICHE. The word niche can be unfamiliar to you but by the time you finish reading this post, you will have a clear picture.

There are no limitations to finding your own niche. One way you can never go wrong is to choose your niche from the things you are interested in or passionate about.

This brings us to the most important question.

What Is A Niche? A niche is an area you are interested in or something you are passionate about. For instance, a hobby. A Niche market, a focused, targetable portion (subset) of a market sector.

Can I make money from any niche?

You can achieve your dream writing in any niche you choose for the simple reason that there are billions of people out there searching for information or looking for solutions. These searchers (audience) are prepared to part with a lot of money just to get answers or solutions to their problems. At times the information is based on certain products or certain services. What makes it exciting is these searches are continuous and being done daily.

Who Is Your Audience?

An audience is a particular group of people looking for information. Having this picture in mind of a group of people searching for something gives you a clue of what a niche is. A niche is a group of people looking for stuff. Having this clear picture in mind, you can choose the right niche in your area or products you are interested in.

A type of product you feel comfortable to write content, writing continuously to give advice to a particular group of people who are searching for that particular information. For example, a group of people looking for information about writing a fiction novel.

From this example, you can see the focus is narrowed to a specific group of people. Meaning the information you will provide is not GENERAL information about writing but specific information for writing a fiction novel.

In the example I’ve cited, the information is not on writing a general novel but writing a novel of a particular genre called Fiction. If you choose a generic or a very broad area to focus on you will find it very difficult to give your audience specialised information.

People are sensitive and may not trust generic information. Moreover, you are expected to create content around your niche on a regular basis, a  lifestyle of some sort.

Why the baby clothes niche is too broad?

Baby Clothes Niche

Baby Clothes cover a wide range of baby items, bodysuits, nappies, baby warp blankets to socks. The list is long. I am not suggesting by any means that you should not choose the Baby Clothes niche.

All I’m saying is if you go for this niche, you must be specific. Narrow your focus to pinpoint the exact group of people you intend to assist with baby clothes information. Do not leave it to the imagination.

Healthy Living is another broad niche because you can look at it from different angles including a medical angle or demographic angle. Living lifestyles also will come into play. Unless you pinpoint your particular area of focus, your niche will remain obscure.

What’s the secret behind choosing the right niche?

Whatever niche you choose, you must have a bigger picture in mind. Figure out your level of commitment in terms of creating based on your chosen niche. This is something you are going to be doing on a daily basis.

You are better off choosing your niche from the things you are interested in or you want to develop more knowledge on. Things you know you will not run dry of ideas in terms of creating content. Below are a few things worthy to consider.

Create content in line with your niche

  1. The content you are going to write should be based on your niche.
  2. Your communication will be centred on your niche.
  3. The products you are going to promote must fall within your niche.
  4. You will help people with information about your niche.

What is the success rate for online businesses?

The chances of running a viable business online are quite high considering we have 3.75 billion people using the internet i.e. according to 2017 statistics.

These are your ‘audience.’ People searching for certain information to get their problems solved. It’s not just random searches but these people are serious and ready to buy what they think will bring a solution or a service they need.

Almost anything you can think of is a potential niche. Is it your passion, a hobby, or anything you are prepared to develop more knowledge along with your daily journey of churning out content after content?

The word NICHE can scare off many people. In simple terms, a niche is an area you are passionate about to be comfortable to help others with advice and information. This is where your website comes in to help your audience with information they are looking for. You will be HELPING your audience and earning revenue in the process.

Don’t travel on this journey alone.

  1. I agree that a website should be the foundation of your online business and being able to find a good Niche market is critical.

Going too broad like you mentioned for Baby clothes by itself could lead one to be less informed on a specific category within that niche.

It is important to narrow it enough to be able to provide great detail in your content.

I agree with you about Wealthy Affiliate is the one-stop-shop for success.

I am a member and have taken my business to a new level by using their services.

You have really helped me. I used to think the more things I deal with (being jack of all trades) the more knowledgeable I com across.

    1. Hello, thank you very much for stopping by and leaving some comments.
I am pleased I explained the subject of Finding Your Niche in a way easy to grasp.

Finding a niche is one of the most important stages of building your business online.
Everything you do afterwards such as building your website, researching for keywords and blogging all are shaped by the niche you choose.

I know sometimes it can be tricky to know if a particular niche is broad or good enough. For example, Book is a broad niche. To narrow it down, Fiction Books is a better option.

  3. This was a very informative post about finding a niche. I remember I use to be so confused as to what ankcje was, and especially how to find one.

I wish I had seen this post back then so I would of understood it better.

How many inches would you say you are involved with right now. And how do you go about finding out how competitive a certain niche is?

    1. Thank you, Michael, for taking the time to leave some invaluable comments.

I am pleased to hear that you understood my message.
At times, a Niche is not one of the easiest subject people can grasp.

I am now into three niches namely writing, travel bags and internet business.

This came about as a result of mistakes I made in choosing my initial niches.
I feel first and foremost it has to be something I am passionate about so that I will be able to write content continuously.

It’s possible to make a niche competitive by finding a unique angle within the niche that no one else is focusing on.

Just because there are many websites in my niche doesn’t necessarily mean I will not be successful.

There are almost four billion people who are actively searching or looking for products and solutions. These are my audience.

Also, when I understanding my customers: what they are buying and what they are looking for, I will know what information they need to find on my site.

Lastly, if I find out my niche doesn’t work, there are plenty of other niches to choose from.

  4. Great post. You amazingly explained how to choose your niche properly as it is the foundation for a good online business.

You will never run out of ideas for a niche that you truly care and passionate about.

Your insights will definitely help all the newbies looking for something to jumpstart on. Keep up and all the best!

It is true that one needs a website and wealthy affiliate actually provides that in the easiest form.

Meanwhile, through football kits, I can make money by selling some products. Veryb

    1. Hi, Henderson, thanks so much for taking time to read my post, ‘How To Find Your Niche’ and leaving some valuable comments.
Football is a very interesting niche.
I like the idea that you narrowed your focus to football kits.
The the way the world is progressing these days seems to be pointing in the direction of internet businesses.

We now have more people shopping online (eCommerce), more people doing courses online and even consulting medical advise online.

br>Definitely, a website is a useful tool to have for your business. And football is a very popular game.

You will always have people searching for football-related information and football kits to buy.

I have used other online platforms to build websites for colleagues and I found out that WA is more user-friendly and very easy to use.

      Best wishes for the future.
