Choosing a niche
To get started choose your NICHE. The word niche can be unfamiliar to you but by the time you finish reading this post, you will have a clear picture.
There are no limitations to finding your own niche. One way you can never go wrong is to choose your niche from the things you are interested in or passionate about.
This brings us to the most important question.
What Is A Niche? A niche is an area you are interested in or something you are passionate about. For instance, a hobby. A Niche market, a focused, targetable portion (subset) of a market sector.
Can I make money from any niche I chose?
You can achieve your dream writing in any niche you choose for the simple reason that there are billions of people out there searching for information or looking for solutions. These searchers (audience) are prepared to part with a lot of money just to get answers or solutions to their problems. At times the information is based on certain products or certain services. What makes it exciting is these searches are continuous and being done daily.
Who Is Your Audience?
An audience is a particular group of people looking for information. Having this picture in mind of a group of people searching for something gives you a clue of what a niche is. A niche is a group of people looking for stuff. Having this clear picture in mind, you can choose the right niche in your area or products you are interested in.
A type of product you feel comfortable to write content, writing continuously to give advice to a particular group of people who are searching for that particular information. For example, a group of people looking for information about writing a fiction novel.
From this example, you can see the focus is narrowed to a specific group of people. Meaning the information you will provide is not GENERAL information about writing but specific information for writing a fiction novel.
In the example I’ve cited, the information is not on writing a general novel but writing a novel of a particular genre called Fiction. If you choose a generic or a very broad area to focus on you will find it very difficult to give your audience specialised information.
People are sensitive and may not trust generic information. Moreover, you are expected to create content around your niche on a regular basis, a lifestyle of some sort.
Why the baby clothes niche is too broad?
Baby Clothes cover a wide range of baby items, bodysuits, nappies, baby warp blankets to socks. The list is long. I am not suggesting by any means that you should not choose the Baby Clothes niche.
All I’m saying is if you go for this niche, you must be specific. Narrow your focus to pinpoint the exact group of people you intend to assist with baby clothes information. Do not leave it to the imagination.
Healthy Living is another broad niche because you can look at it from different angles including a medical angle or demographic angle. Living lifestyles also will come into play. Unless you pinpoint your particular area of focus, your niche will remain obscure.
What’s the secret to choosing the right niiche?
Whatever niche you choose, you must have a bigger picture in mind. Figure out your level of commitment in terms of creating based on your chosen niche. This is something you are going to be doing on a daily basis.
You are better off choosing your niche from the things you are interested in or you want to develop more knowledge on. Things you know you will not run dry of ideas in terms of creating content. Below are a few things worthy to consider.
Create content in line with your niche
- The content you are going to write should be based on your niche.
- Your communication will be centred on your niche.
- The products you are going to promote must fall within your niche.
- You will help people with information about your niche.
What is the success rate for online businesses?
The chances of running a viable business online are quite high considering we have 3.75 billion people using the internet i.e. according to 2017 statistics.
These are your ‘audience.’ People searching for certain information to get their problems solved. It’s not just random searches but these people are serious and ready to buy what they think will bring a solution or a service they need.
Almost anything you can think of is a potential niche. Is it your passion, a hobby, or anything you are prepared to develop more knowledge along with your daily journey of churning out content after content?
The word NICHE can scare off many people. In simple terms, a niche is an area you are passionate about to be comfortable to help others with advice and information. This is where your website comes in to help your audience with information they are looking for. You will be HELPING your audience and earning revenue in the process.
